In 1976, Sony went to the National Stadium in Tokyo and lined up every single gadget they offered to photograph them. All were analog, mostly in radio, audio and TV. This is a photo of that.

More than two decades ago, Fujifilm was one of the first camera manufacturers to see the future of photography was digital. In 1988, the Japanese imaging giant developed the world's first fully digital still camera; 10 years ago Fujifilm held 30% of the digicam market. But that dominant position proved difficult to defend against competitors such as Nikon, Olympus and Canon. Today, Fujifilm is one of the industry's also-rans, with just a 6.7% market share.

There's one way to get back into the game: invent new rules. That's just what Fujifilm plans to do later this year when it unveils the world's first 3-D digital camera for consumers. The company hopes that its groundbreaking new gadget tentatively named the FinePix Real 3D System will allow it to leapfrog the competition by bringing 3-D capabilities to the masses, at the same time putting a little buzz back into the business of taking snapshots.

Sony Walkman is top music invention

The Walkman used to be the perfect companion for whole generation of music lovers, and now the clunky portable cassette player by Sony has been named the best musical invention of the last 50 years.

Sony's music player has even beaten the Dolby sound, compact discs, and the ubiquitous iPod to top the list of ‘ten most important musical innovations of the last 50 years’, published by T3 magazine.

The Walkman’s victory has comes in the same week in which it has celebrated its 30th birthday.

The first Walkman was the blue-and-silver model TPS-L2, which went on sale in Japan on July 1, 1979, and started a musical revolution as it went on to become one of the world''s first truly global gadgets.

The MP3 digital music format came in second, while the iPod music player was placed at the third spot on the list.
